Long ago, when the Celtic peoples marked the passing of time by the turning of the year and not by a brightly-colored calendar upon the wall -- when the seasons meant more than the changing of one's wardrobe -- the wise or the wealthy might possess a Book of Days to illuminate the march of time with tales and the traditions of elder times. Each important celebration had its own special stores to mark its importance, each festival was outlined with rites and rituals, solemn or joyful. These stories were heard with delight, not only by the young, but by their parents as well, for they marked the boundaries of time, and gave extra meaning to the procession of the changing year. 15 Tracks, 1998.
DAVID SAYS: This album had been brewing inside of me for a long time. The success of Riverdance and the Celtic wave in general brought it out at this time, I guess. I felt very in tune with the Celtic forces and I think I wrote some of my best songs ever. I recorded a choir in Vancouver and a stellar string section in Burbank. I think this is one of my best recordings, and one of my favorites. Carol Worthey wrote terrific vocal arrangements, and Don did a great job on everything else. I was fortunate to tour opening for Michael Crawford in support of this record, and we played in front of over 350,000 people! Whew!
