The tragedy of 9/11 compelled me to turn inward from my worldly musical travels, and focus on my homeland for this release. It was easy to be inspired by all the places I’ve been on my travels in America. I went to Salt Lake to record the orchestra, and they were great. This album sounds very rich and emotional to me. My good friend Seth Osburn did some great piano work, as did Chad Watson on bass, who I’ve played with for 15 years! Don Markese did fabulous arrangements and conducted the orchestra. Sometimes I just sat in with the orchestra when they did the run-throughs and I was blown away by the power and talent they brought to my music. ‘New Day,’ ‘Full Sail,’ ‘Sketches of the Dream,’ (which I wrote for Don) and ‘Surrounded by Beauty’ are the special ones for me.
